What is the Blue Mountains?
The Blue Mountains is a UNESCO World Heritage-listed mountain range located approximately 80 km west of Sydney, New South Wales. The name comes from the distinctive blue haze that hangs over the valleys — caused by fine droplets of eucalyptus oil released by the millions of gum trees that blanket the landscape.
The region is home to some of Australia's most dramatic scenery: towering sandstone cliffs, ancient rainforest gorges, cascading waterfalls, and the iconic Three Sisters rock formation at Echo Point. It is one of the most visited natural attractions in Australia and a must-see on any Sydney itinerary.
For Korean travellers visiting Sydney, a Blue Mountains private tour from Sydney with a Korean-speaking guide is the most comfortable and informative way to experience this spectacular landscape. SAT Tour's private day tour departs from your Sydney hotel and covers all the major highlights in a single day.
The Blue Mountains private tour Sydney includes entry to Featherdale Wildlife Park — where you can meet koalas, kangaroos, and wombats — and a ride on the world-famous Scenic Railway, the steepest passenger railway in the world at 52 degrees. These inclusions make SAT Tour's Blue Mountains tour exceptional value compared to other operators.

From Our Guides
Local Expert Insight — What We Know After 20 Years in the Blue Mountains
We've taken thousands of Korean travellers to the Blue Mountains. Here's what we've learned that you won't find in any guidebook.
The best time to be at Echo Point is 9:30–10:30 AM
Echo Point gets extremely crowded from 11 AM onwards — especially on weekends and during school holidays. Tour buses from Sydney start arriving in waves from 10:30 AM. We deliberately schedule our arrival at Echo Point for 9:30–10:30 AM, before the crowds hit. You get the Three Sisters almost to yourself, the light is perfect for photos, and the air is still crisp and clear. By the time the bus tours arrive, we're already at Leura for lunch.
The Scenic Railway vs the Scenic Skyway — which one first?
Most tourists do the Skyway (cable car) first because it's at the top. We always recommend the Railway first. The Railway takes you down into the rainforest at 52 degrees — it's thrilling and sets the scene for the whole day. Then you walk through the rainforest at the bottom, take the Cableway back up, and finish with the Skyway for the panoramic valley view. This order gives you the best experience and avoids the worst queues.
Autumn is the secret season — and most Koreans don't know it
March to May is the best time to visit the Blue Mountains, full stop. The temperatures are perfect (15–22°C), the crowds are smaller than summer, and the deciduous trees in Leura and Blackheath turn spectacular shades of red, orange, and gold. Korean travellers who visit in autumn consistently rate it as one of the most beautiful things they've seen in Australia. Yet most Korean tour packages focus on summer. If you have flexibility, choose autumn.
Featherdale Wildlife Park: arrive early, stay longer than you think
Most tour operators rush through Featherdale in 45 minutes. We allocate 75–90 minutes because the experience is genuinely special — especially for families. The koala holding experience (available at certain times) books out fast. We arrive when the park opens to guarantee you get a spot. The kangaroo feeding area is also best in the morning when the animals are most active. Don't let anyone rush you through this stop.

Insider Knowledge
Hidden Tips — What Most Tourists Miss at the Blue Mountains
Govetts Leap: the lookout most tours skip
Govetts Leap in Blackheath is arguably more dramatic than Echo Point — a sheer 180-metre cliff drop with a waterfall and a 360-degree valley view. Almost no large tour buses go there. We include it when time permits. Ask your guide specifically about Govetts Leap when you book.
The best lunch spot in Leura is not the obvious one
Every tour stops at the main strip on Leura Mall. The locals eat at the Leura Garage — a converted 1920s service station with excellent food and a beautiful garden. It's a 3-minute walk from the main strip. Your guide will take you there if you ask.
The Three Sisters photo: where to actually stand
The main Echo Point platform is always crowded. Walk 50 metres to the left along the cliff-top track to find a quieter viewing area with an equally good — arguably better — angle on the Three Sisters. Your guide knows exactly where to go.
Misty mornings are not a bad thing
Many guests are disappointed when they arrive at Echo Point to find mist in the valley. In our experience, the mist usually clears by 10–11 AM, revealing the full valley view. And the misty photos are often the most atmospheric and beautiful. Don't panic if it's cloudy when you arrive.
The koala holding experience at Featherdale
Featherdale offers a koala holding photo experience at specific times (usually 10 AM and 2 PM). Spots are limited. We arrive early specifically to secure spots for our guests. If you want this experience, tell us when you book and we'll prioritise the timing.
The Scenic Railway is not actually scary
Many guests are nervous about the 52-degree incline. In reality, the cars are enclosed, the seats are comfortable, and the descent takes only about 4 minutes. We've taken guests aged 4 to 84 on the Railway. The only people who genuinely can't do it are those with severe claustrophobia or heart conditions.
Common Mistakes
Mistakes to Avoid — Blue Mountains Day Tour
Taking the train instead of a private tour
ImportantThe Blue Mountains train from Central Station is cheap (A$8.60 return) but it drops you at Katoomba station — a 20-minute walk from Echo Point, with no Featherdale, no Scenic World included, and no guide. You'll spend half the day figuring out buses and walking. For Korean travellers unfamiliar with the area, a private tour is dramatically better value.
Booking a large coach tour to save money
CriticalLarge coach tours pick up from multiple hotels, take 45 minutes to load everyone, rush through each stop with 40+ strangers, and give you 20 minutes at Echo Point. We've had guests switch from coach tours to our private tours mid-trip and say it was the best decision of their holiday. The price difference is smaller than you think.
Not checking the weather and not bringing layers
CriticalThe Blue Mountains sit at 1,000 metres elevation. Even on a warm Sydney day (28°C), it can be 10–15°C cooler in the mountains, especially at the lookouts. We've seen guests arrive in shorts and t-shirts in July and spend the whole day shivering. Always bring a jacket, regardless of the Sydney forecast.
Skipping Featherdale to save time
ImportantSome guests ask to skip Featherdale to spend more time at the mountains. We understand the logic, but almost every guest who skips it regrets it. Featherdale is the only place in the Sydney region where you can hold a koala and hand-feed kangaroos. It's a 45-minute detour that most guests rate as the highlight of the day.
Arriving at Echo Point at midday
ImportantIf you're doing the Blue Mountains independently, avoid Echo Point between 11 AM and 2 PM. This is when every tour bus in Sydney arrives simultaneously. The viewing platform is so crowded you can barely move, let alone take a photo. Our private tours are specifically timed to avoid this window.
Tips for First-Time Visitors — Blue Mountains from Sydney
Planning your first Blue Mountains private tour from Sydney? Here are the most important tips to make the most of your day.
Check the weather forecast
The Blue Mountains can be misty or rainy, especially in winter. Bring a light jacket regardless of the season — it's always cooler than Sydney. Misty mornings can actually create beautiful atmospheric photos.
Wear comfortable walking shoes
The cliff-top walking tracks at Echo Point and Scenic World involve some walking on uneven terrain. Comfortable, closed-toe shoes are strongly recommended. Avoid thongs or high heels.
Bring a good camera
The Blue Mountains offer some of the most photogenic scenery in Australia. The Three Sisters at Echo Point, the Scenic Railway, and the valley views are all exceptional photo opportunities. A wide-angle lens is ideal.
Apply sunscreen even on cloudy days
UV radiation in Australia is extremely high, even on overcast days. Apply SPF 50+ sunscreen before you leave your hotel and reapply throughout the day, especially at open lookout points.
Try the local cafes in Leura
Leura village has some excellent cafes and bakeries. Your Korean tour guide Sydney will recommend the best spots for lunch. The Leura Garage and Silk's Brasserie are local favourites.
Book at least 1 week in advance
The Blue Mountains private tour is popular, especially during school holidays and peak season (December–January). Book early to secure your preferred date and avoid disappointment.
